Maana Será Bonito by Karol G, the first all-Spanish-language album by a female to reach the top spot, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. SZA’s reign at the top of the charts comes to an end with this.
“I feel so very special. More than happiness, I feel special,” Karol G told Billboard about the achievement. “My last album did so well and had all those big hits, like “Bichota,” so the bar was high. But I didn’t want to make music because I felt the pressure. I wanted to make the music I wanted to make, and the fact that I’ve hit No. 1 with an album that is so personal is enormous.”
Karol stated, “I’m sharing something with Selena! I’m sharing something with my idol, the late Selena Quintanilla! That’s incredible. Imagine my year: I got to work with Shakira, met Rihanna, and now I have a No. 1 single like Selena did.
The “MAMMIII” singer’s fourth studio album saw the biggest debut for a Latina female artist since 2014 with 94,000 equivalent album units sold in the United States, according to Billboard. The only all-Spanish albums to accomplish so before were Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Without Te (2022) and El Ultimo Tour del Mundo (2020).
In solidarity, Karol acknowledged the winning women in music right now. “And how cool is it that on International Women’s Month, I get to No. 1, and the artist before me at No. 1 was SZA,” she added. “And that ‘TQG’ is No. 1 [on Spotify], and all these songs by women are in the top slots. We’re living such a strong moment. Now, we’re going for more.”
