Even while many at the time thought that Tyler, The Creator’s debut album Goblin was a groundbreaking work, he has said that it wasn’t his best work.

Tyler commented on his perspective as a 20-year-old who was committed to making a splash in the music industry with his first project during a protracted interview with the Rap Radar Podcast.

People came to see me because they liked my clunky synths, yelled on every song without realizing it, and had ugly drumming. The music is not the focus.
